The proposed experience
On August 15, 1944, during the Provence landings, the Notre-Dame de Consolation sanctuary was destroyed. A few years later, in 1952, the municipal government led by Joseph Clotis decided to rebuild a chapel, entrusting the project to Hyères-based architect Raymond Vaillant.
During this guided tour, discover the history of this memorial site and the architectural choices that shaped its rebirth. Your guide will highlight the distinctive features of this contemporary structure as well as the works of art that contribute to its artistic identity.
The stained-glass windows created by master glassmaker Gabriel Loire and the sculptures by Jean Lambert-Rucki enrich the overall design and make this sanctuary a remarkable example of 20th-century sacred art.
