Olbia: A Greek Fortress

Accompanied by a mediator or tour guide, set out to explore the archaeological site of Olbia. This guided tour offers a clear overview of the ruins and landscapes of this exceptional ancient site, spanning Greek history and medieval heritage.

The experience offered

Located on a gentle promontory by the sea, Olbia is the only surviving example of a network of Greek fortress-colonies founded by Marseille beginning in the 4th century B.C.
Throughout the guided tour, the docent will help you understand the urban evolution of this ancient city over nearly 1,000 years. The unearthed remains reveal the complete layout of a city: fortifications, streets equipped with sewers and sidewalks, a communal well, residential blocks consisting of houses and shops, thermal baths, and sanctuaries.
The tour also allows you to explore the ruins of the medieval Saint-Pierre de l’Almanarre Abbey, which bear witness to the site’s continuous occupation over the centuries. An enriching immersion in the history and landscapes of a unique place.
