Mount Faron: the star of Toulon’s mountains
Toulon was built between sea and hills. The most famous of these, Mount Faron, dominates the harbor with its 584 meters of limestone and pine forests. Its distinctive feature is the cable car, which takes you to the summit in just a few minutes. An unspoilt natural rampart, it offers a spectacular panoramic view of Toulon, the Mediterranean and the Var hinterland. A major historical site, with the D-Day memorial in Provence, Mount Faron is also the scene of sporting activities and nature walks, a haven of peace and escape above the city.

Along with Mont Caume,Baou de Quatre Aures, Coudon, the Cap Sicié massif and Gros Cerveau, Mont Faron – Toulon’s most illustrious mountain – is a haven of peace on the outskirts of the city. From this ideal vantage point, which once ensured Toulon’s security, you can contemplate a breathtaking panorama of the Mediterranean, the harbor and naval base, the city and surrounding mountains, all the way to the Sainte-Baume, and the Alpes-Maritimes in fine weather.

In summer, fire risks can be high and access to Mont Faron may be limited. Every day, the Var Prefecture publishes a map indicating the risk levels in the different massifs: find out before you go out for a walk to avoid putting yourself in danger.

Get some height
Mount Faron’s cable car – the only one of its kind on the Mediterranean coast – takes you to the summit in just a few minutes. On board, the climb is sensational: you can admire the sea as far as the eye can see, the limestone slopes and pine forests, the fascinating contrast between the sky and the vegetation. A stroll through the forts
Extend your exploration of the site with its fortified structures: Mount Faron boasts no fewer than nine forts and batteries! To the west, the panoramic road leads to the Grand Saint-Antoine fort: the view over the Las valley and surrounding vegetation contrasts with the deep blue sky. To the east, from the strategic location of Fort de la Croix-Faron, you can see the naval base and the docked military vessels. Further down, Fort Faron, located on the eastern flank, also offers a unique view of the small harbor.

How do I get there?
By car: From the town center, follow signs for “Toulon nord – Mont Faron”, then “Téléphérique – Mémorial” on a one-way road (uphill to the west, downhill to the east).
By cable car: Get to the departure station at 2, boulevard Amiral Vence. To get there, take bus line 40 “Super Toulon – Mas du Faron”, stop “Téléphérique”.
