The firecracker-red cabins with their ’50s look are a first invitation to travel…back in time. Once you’re on board, you’ll notice a porthole in the floor that’s likely to make you dizzy: will you dare to watch the landscape unfold beneath your feet?
Our advice
Before you go, make sure you know when the cable car is open. Please note: the gondola is closed on days when there is a high wind and, in summer, a fire hazard.

Ascent with 360° view
On board, the cabin attendant makes sure everything is in order, you leave the departure station and start enjoying the view: it’s sublime and 360 degrees. The cable car winds its way between the hills. The contrast between limestone rocks and pine trees, then the harbor and sky merging into one, creates an incredible spectacle. It’s also the city that seems so close at hand, and yet so vast!
In the distance, you can see the Îles d’Or and the bay of Saint-Mandrier, and you can make out the hills lining the western Var coastline. In the cabin, the sensations are overwhelming, and you even find yourself looking through the floor window, playing at the places around you.
The cabin attendant takes pleasure in commenting on the scenery, and answers passengers’ questions with a touch of pride. Despite the short journey, you still have plenty of time to take photos and contemplate the view.
Once you’ve arrived, the choice is yours: picnic tables under the pine trees, a hiking trail, the entrance to the D-Day landings memorial, or simply continue contemplating the panorama.
