Halles de Toulon - Biltoki

Inaugurated in 1929 as a covered market, the building is a model of Art-Deco reinforced concrete construction.
Closed since 2002, Les Halles has been owned by the Toulon Provence Méditerranée metropolitan authority since 2003.
Les Halles is a former historical center with real potential for revitalizing the district and the heart of the city, and is still very much in the memory of local residents. With its large volumes, central location and Art-Deco architecture, this is an ideal location for this project, which will reconnect with its past.
Since 1956, Les Halles de Toulon has been named after Esther Poggio. Born on January 18, 1912 in Toulon, Esther Poggio was the eldest of five children and helped her parents, fruit and vegetable retailers at Les Halles de Toulon and farmers at Pont-de-Suve. This bold, courageous and determined young woman is said to have hidden weapons in the cellar of her family stall at Les Halles de Toulon, during the Second World War, for the Francs-tireurs et partisans (FTP).
