The arrival of the terrible warriors
You spot the entrance to your stand and wait impatiently for the arrival of the XV du muguet. All around you, the Rouge et Noir people are at the rendezvous of a ritual they wouldn’t miss for anything in the world: songs, laughter and lively debriefs of recent matches emanate from the fan groups. The imposing players’ bus moves slowly along the Avenue of Legends and, like an entrance to the ring, you cheer on the team – already focused on the match – as they make their way to the changing rooms.

Before kick-off, you shudder at the warlike chant of Pilou-Pilou – the Toulon supporters’ anthem – and at the sight of a forest of red and black flags waving above the stands. The match is in full swing and the action is non-stop between the two Top 14 teams: you can’t miss a moment of it, and comment on every pass and referee action with your fellow players. For 80 minutes, the players put on a top-class sporting show, and the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat until the hoped-for victory of the Rouge et Noir. At the end of the match, the entire Mayol crowd exulted, between happiness and relief.

A rugby player’s word
For players, opponents and fans alike, a match at Mayol is always a special, timeless experience. Among them, Serge Blanco expressed it in these words: “The Mayol stadium is truly atypical (…). This stadium merges with the city. The location is exceptional. The public is very close to the pitch. I’ve had some exceptional times there, even if I’ve been spanked more often than I’ve got results. In Toulon, if you enter the pitch without determination, it’s not even worth going in.
