Admission to the Musée Balaguier

Discover Fort Balaguier in La Seyne-sur-Mer, a 17thᵉ century military structure built to defend the Toulon roadstead. Transformed into a museum since 1970, it offers a deep dive into local maritime history, complemented by a botanical garden. A cultural and heritage visit.

The proposed experiment

Your ticket gives you access to Fort Balaguier, built between 1634 and 1636 on the orders of Cardinal de Richelieu to reinforce the defense of Toulon’s harbor against maritime threats.
As you explore the fort’s military architecture and its former defensive spaces, you’ll learn about local maritime history. The museum highlights local maritime history, with collections focusing on marine life, the history of Toulon’s bagnes and various objects and historical elements testifying to the region’s naval past.
In the fort’s former chapel, an immersive virtual reality device completes the tour. Equipped with a headset, you are plunged into the heart of the underwater world, and discover the wreck of the Arroyo in 3D reconstruction. This immersive experience allows you to virtually explore the seabed and learn about our maritime heritage in a whole new way.
The visit continues in the Mediterranean botanical garden laid out around the fort. Here you can observe a collection of plants adapted to the local climate, in a natural setting overlooking the harbor. The garden is a pleasant place to stroll, combining Mediterranean vegetation, military heritage and panoramic sea views.
