The history of salt
The Pesquiers pond covers almost 550 hectares. More than half of its surface area has been converted into salt marshes, the Salins d’Hyèresoperated by the “Compagnie des Salins du Midi”, produced up to 30,000 tons of salt a year until 1995. Recognized as one of the most remarkable natural areas on the Var coast, the Salins d’Hyères are fragile natural spaces that provide a stopover for migratory birds and shelter for sedentary ones.
Hyères continued to harvest salt in ancient times until 1995. Exported throughout Europe, salt, a precious commodity, made the town’s fortune.
This visit to the heart of the Pesquiers marshes, now a bird sanctuary, tells the story of the saunier’s trade, its traditions and its legends.

Port-Cros offers you a breath of fresh air. The smallest of the “Iles d’Or” is also the most unspoilt.
Your guide will tell you all about this jewel of the Mediterranean as soon as you cross the harbor from Hyères. Less than an hour later, you dock in the colorful little port, nestled in a cove overlooked by the mighty “Fort du Moulin”.
You’ll get a sense of the island, its history and the work of the national park.
Then head for “Fort de l’Estissac” and “Pointe du Grand-père” for the best view of la Palud bay and Rascas rock.

The historic heart and the nougat factory
Our guide takes you on a two-part tour of Ollioules. First of all, a visit to the “Cité de l’Olivier” takes you on a tour of a rich, well-preserved heritage, with theRomanesque church of Saint-Laurent and medieval streets and facades featuring porches and arcades. In the Renaissance district, the famous Provencal gypseries reveal their secrets.

The Arrosants canal
Our guide invites you to discover how the waters of the Reppe were domesticated by man from the Middle Ages onwards, thanks to the construction of canals known as Béal, which include the “Canal des Moulins”, the “Canal des Fontaines” and the “Canal des Jardins”. Over the centuries, the people of Ollioules have ingeniously and stubbornly shared these waters.
On this tour, you’ll also learn how Ollioules became the flower capital of France from 1850 to 1960. You’ll visit the Palisson mill, a genuine 16th-century flour mill currently being restored, where you’ll learn about the miller’s trade and the traditional tools used to grow wheat.

Art craftsman, at the heart of exceptional know-how
Since Neolithic times, theOllioules area has been synonymous with quality craftsmanship. From alley to alley, your guide explains the different techniques used to decorate facades and window frames(gypseries) during the Renaissance.
Your guide will take you through centuries of olive-growing, from the production of olive oil to the creation of the famous “savons de Toulon” (now known as “savons de Marseille”).
The guided tour then takes you to the heart of the art workshops that perpetuate the tradition of experience and craftsman creation. You’ll meet Florence Bertin (Cap Déco), a feather worker, Caroline Mary, a ceramist, Michel Ange Iriti “Michel’ange couture”, a wedding and evening dress designer, and Claude Ferrito, a designer.
