Route des Marais - D 42 - 83400 Hyères
Located in the industrial heart of the Pesquiers saltworks, this building, now restored, is a rare testimony to the salt-making past. The Tympanum, the saltworks' hydraulic hub, is a sort of noria powered by a steam engine. At a time when the site had no electricity, this ‘hydraulic machine’ was built to the north of the Pesquiers salt works.
Come and find out more about the history of salt as you visit the museographical area explaining how the Tympanum works.
Meeting point: Departure from the northern footbridge of the discovery footpath.
Route des Marais roundabout and the Hippodrome de la Plage/ Port de Hyères racecourse.
