A few literary extracts on the beauty of Toulon will help define the components of urban beauty. City representations have long inspired artists of all stripes - painters, sculptors, photographers, filmmakers and architects - who show their beauty, but can also denounce their limitations. Improvements were proposed and implemented in the XIXᵉ century. We'll be looking at two typical yet different examples, Paris and Vienna. A city's beauty also depends on its life, its history, its functions, a whole that constitutes its soul. This quality attracts tourism, but also generates excess, a major problem in some cities today.
