June 1945. Severely disfigured, singer Nelly Lenz—the sole survivor of a family deported to Auschwitz—returns to a Berlin in ruins. She is accompanied by her loyal friend Lene, an employee of the Jewish Agency. Having just recovered from facial reconstruction surgery, Nelly sets out to find her husband Johnny, despite Lene’s suspicious warnings. Johnny is convinced that his wife is missing.
