Hyères: A Nature Walk to Explore the Giens Peninsula

What if the landscapes of the Giens Peninsula revealed the secrets of the Mediterranean coastline?

Amid the sea, dunes, pine forests, and unspoiled shores, set out on a nature walk to discover one of the most remarkable sites along the Var coastline.

Accompanied by a science guide, you’ll learn to observe the landscapes around you in a new light. The mats of Posidonia seagrass, the high-tide line, the dunes, the coastal vegetation, and the shapes of the shoreline tell the story of Mediterranean beaches and reveal how they function naturally.

As you walk, you’ll come to understand how these elements—which are sometimes overlooked—help protect the coastline from erosion, promote biodiversity, and contribute to the balance of these fragile ecosystems.

Designed for all ages, this outing combines observations, discussions, and discoveries in a friendly atmosphere. Younger children can set out to search for the beach’s natural treasures, while participants who wish to do so can extend the experience with an introduction to naturalist watercolor painting.

A walk to learn how to interpret the landscape, understand the natural balances of the coastline, and gain a fresh perspective on Mediterranean beaches.

This free event is offered by reservation as part of the “Our Living Beaches – Understanding Nature to Better Preserve It” program, organized by the Port-Cros National Park as part of the European AMMIRARE project. Coordinated locally by the CIETM, this program offers free activities throughout the summer to help participants better understand the natural processes of Mediterranean beaches and the challenges of preserving them.
