Gaston Monescu is a master thief who operates under numerous false identities. He falls madly in love with Lily, a young pickpocket. They decide to form a criminal partnership, and soon all of Europe is talking about their misdeeds. They manage to get hired by Mariette Collet, the wealthy widow of a Parisian perfumer, with the goal, of course, of robbing her safe. But Gaston falls under Mariette’s spell.
