Hyères Tour des Templiers

Place Massillon - Centre-ville - 83400 Hyères

Since the 19th century, the palm tree has been the emblem of Hyères.
The exhibition at the Tour des Templiers traces the history of this plant in Hyères, its acclimatization, and its use as an ornamental feature—all of which have lent such an exotic touch to the town’s gardens, squares, and streets. This historical and cultural dimension is complemented by the vision and talent of three artists: Yannick de Bouillanne’s creations, Isabelle Stagg’s ink drawings, and Virgil Prudhomme’s photographs.

On the railings along Avenue Joseph Clotis, photographs by André Durieux—preserved in the municipal archives—reveal the enduring enthusiasm for palm trees from the 1950s to the 1980s.

At the washhouse on Rue du Repos, ten photographs selected through a contest showcase the contemporary perspectives of photography enthusiasts.
