Hoffmann's story, this marvelous tale follows the story of young Clara, who receives a nutcracker shaped like a little man as a present. On Christmas Eve, the toy comes to life and leads her on a magical adventure: a battle against an army of mischievous mice, a metamorphosis into Prince Charming, then an enchanting journey through a fairytale kingdom where flowers and snowflakes come alive to dance. The two-act ballet was first performed in December 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. It remains one of the world's most performed ballets, driven by its spellbinding music and spectacular choreography.
