Porte d'Italie

Toulon

Along with the ramparts of the Lices district, the Porte d'Italie is one of the last vestiges of the city's fortified belt.

Opened in 1791 to designs by Vauban, this is a fine example of a fortified city gate. This was the route Bonaparte took to leave for the Italian campaign.
