Park and garden

Parc de la Loubière

Toulon

A former industrial wasteland has been rehabilitated into a Mediterranean garden that tells the story of the past, present and future of the Mediterranean through the different species of plants chosen and its water features: cascading river, fountains, water mirror.

The various landscapes of the region are represented (garrigue, woodlands, acclimatized gardens, cultivated terraces, planted restanques, medicinal and aromatic species, Mediterranean trees, etc.), using a plant palette that is sparing with resources.
The gardens are designed to pay tribute to the diversity of landscapes found in the Mediterranean region:
> Acclimatization gardens and private botanical collections
> More "natural" landscapes, common backdrops to our living environments
> Mediterranean urban landscapes, using more horticultural species planted locally for their ornamental and comforting qualities (shade, fragrance, flowering, foliage, decorative bark, etc.).

An intergenerational, educational and sustainable living space
The park has been designed as an intergenerational, educational and sustainable place to live, with a diversified program (games for children, living spaces and themed gardens, acclimatized walk, break area with cool islands, dog park, etc.).
Numerous water features will also be created, including a waterfall river, a mirror pool and a 250 m² dry fountain, all of which will operate in closed circuits.

A new green lung
Quartier Durable Méditerranéen (QDM) label
This new development has been awarded the QDM label - Silver Level. The label reflects the exemplary nature of the worksite: low environmental impact, cleanliness of the site and surrounding area, limitation of noise pollution, waste management - 100% waste sorting and recycling.
Most of the park's water consumption is supplied autonomously by the Saint-Philippe spring, which runs beneath the park. This spring supplied the town until the 19th century, and was rediscovered during work on the park. Rainwater is also collected for this purpose in two underground retention basins.
From an environmental point of view, the park is also energy self-sufficient, with electricity generated by photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the technical buildings and the janitor's lodge.
The new park will improve air quality by absorbing CO2 and generating oxygen. In fact, 1 tree absorbs 40kg/year of CO2 and creates 40kg/year of oxygen.
Thanks to the plants, the Parc de la Loubière will absorb 10 tonnes of CO2 and create 7.5 tonnes of oxygen every year.
