House at Le Boulet

Toulon

On the façade of the house at 89 cours Lafayette.

During the war of succession to the Spanish throne in 1707, the enemy who wanted to take Toulon fired hundreds of cannonballs from their besieging ships.
The story goes that this particular cannonball was fired and left where its trajectory took it.
In truth, it had just been forgotten in the building's cellar, and the owner decided to keep it and integrate it into the façade in the 1850s, when the building was restored.
