Coastal Trail - Walk from Darboussières Beach to the Port of La Madrague

Hyères

A Dreamy Hike (3 hours) Do you dream of a hike in nature? Explore the trails of the Giens Peninsula and discover its wild spots, passing through the Tamarin cove all the way to Pointe de l'Ermitage.

Starting point: Darboussières Beach
End point: Port de la Madrague

[UPDATE 2024]
Difficulty: 150 meters past Port de la Madrague, as this section of the trail may be flooded. If necessary, use the detour route via Avenue De Knyff and Parc des Chevaliers.

[2022 Edition]

1) At the end of the path, you’ll see a sign from the Conservatoire du Littoral. Go straight ahead, then turn right. Pass by a green-painted DFCI water tank.

2) At the fork, go straight ahead and you’ll arrive at Darboussières Beach.

3) Climb up the foothills at the far end of the beach on the right to take the coastal trail. You’ll come to a fork in the trail.

4) Head toward Pointe des Chevaliers; you’ll pass by the Tamarin cove (landmark: a very large maritime pine). When you reach Escampo-Barriou Beach, take the path to the left at the end of the beach over the rocks.

5) You’ll come to a fork in the trail. There are two possible routes:

a) Turn left toward “Pointe de Rabat—sporting route” to follow the coastline (marked in yellow). Caution: You’ll be climbing a somewhat challenging flight of stairs.

b) Turn right toward “Pointe de Rabat via the inland route” if you’re looking for a less strenuous hike. This is a more family-friendly route that heads inland (not marked in yellow but indicated by a marker).

You’ll arrive at Pointe Escampo-Barriou.

6) Continue on your way to Pointe des Chevaliers via the Calanque du Blé. You’ll arrive at Plage des Chevaliers, where you can take another swim before the hike ends.

7) Overlooking Chevaliers Beach, you’ll follow the small cove until you reach a steep, short path that will lead you back to the Port de la Madrague.
You’ll pass through distinctive natural arches found nowhere else on the trail.

8) You’ll regularly have your feet in the water on this trail. If you’re unable to walk between Pointe de l’Ermitage and La Madrague, retrace your steps and take Avenue de Knyff from the start of Parc des Chevaliers toward Port de la Madrague.
