Bayarde fort in Carqueiranne
This battery dates back to 1890. Its northern section housed the guardhouse and living quarters for the twenty or so men who made up its garrison. The fort is currently closed to the public.

To the south, three batteries were pointed out to sea, each armed with a 270 mm mortar, with the mission of denying a potential adversary any anchorage from which to bombard the port or city of Toulon.
In 1988, the Bayarde "fort" was purchased by the commune from the French Navy.
In 1997, the Municipality approved the project to turn it into a cultural center. Work began in 1998 and will continue until 2013.
Today, equipped with the largest outdoor stage in the Var (326m²), full stage facilities and a 700-seat capacity, the fort vibrates to the rhythm of the Festival de Théâtre and its 12,000 spectators.
Festival Théâtre In Situ La Bayarde - suspended indefinitely
This emblematic site needs to be made safe on several levels (access, exits, roads, major fire risk, turning and containment areas, etc.), in accordance with the joint recommendations of the prefectural services and SDIS83.
