House at Le Boulet

A cannonball has been embedded in the facade of the house at 89 Cours Lafayette as a decorative feature, giving the building its name.
During the War of the Spanish Succession in 1707, the enemy, seeking to capture Toulon, fired hundreds of cannonballs from their besieging ships.
It is said that this cannonball was fired and left where its trajectory took it.
In reality, it was simply forgotten in the building’s basement, and the owner decided to keep it and incorporate it into the facade in the 1850s during the building’s restoration.
