Tambourin Fountain

Toulon

Fountain dating from 1839, located on Place Louis Blanc since 1977.

Fountain installed in 1839, at the corner of the traverse de la Cathédrale.
At the time, it was a fountain without a basin, consisting of a fluted column on a smooth base, topped by an acroterion decorated with floral motifs. The top part, a stone sphere, was never installed.

Its name comes from its shape, which recalls the Provencal folk instrument, the tambourine.

When, in 1977, the square next to the church of Saint-François de Paule was created on Place Louis Blanc, the fountain with its eight cannons was installed in the center of a small square basin.

Le Tambourin is a listed site.
