MAB - Musée Jean Aicard / Paulin-Bertrand
Housed in the family home "Les Lauriers Roses" of poet and novelist Jean Aicard, this museum presents the writer's everyday world: books, souvenirs, personal objects and drawings left intact in the study and library.
The rest of the collections, including objets d'art, sculptures, paintings and furniture, are spread throughout the rest of the house, illustrating the life of Jean Aicard (Toulon 1848 - Paris 1921).
Of particular note is an astonishing collection by Clément Massier and works by the painter Paulin Bertrand, Jean Aicard's heir.
Jean Aicard claimed he could "write only in his home in the South of France, a source of inspiration", which he left only for the Parisian sojourns required by his writing career.
The house, built in typical Provencal style, stands in the midst of a lovely 6-hectare wooded park designed by Jean Aicard.
A museum with the Musée de France and Maison d'Écrivain label, located in La Garde and managed by the City of Toulon.
