Le Pradet: A Nature Walk Along the Mediterranean Coastline

What if the objects washed up on the beach told the story of the coastline?

Between Garonne Beach and the Port des Oursinières, set out on a nature walk to explore a coastline rich in biodiversity, where every detail offers a deeper understanding of how Mediterranean beaches work.

Accompanied by a science guide, you’ll learn to look at coastal landscapes in a new light and recognize the many natural elements washed up on the beach: Posidonia leaves, seashells, pebbles, driftwood, and beach debris. Although often overlooked, these elements play an essential role in maintaining the balance of beaches, preserving biodiversity, and protecting the coastline from erosion.

Throughout the walk, you’ll discover how these clues tell the story of the shoreline and reveal the close connections between the sea, the beach, and Mediterranean ecosystems.

This walk will also be an opportunity to learn about the BioLit citizen science program, which allows everyone to contribute—through simple observations—to a better understanding and preservation of the coastline.

Open to everyone, this outing combines observations, discussions, and discoveries to help you learn to interpret the landscape and gain a fresh perspective on a natural heritage that is as unassuming as it is precious.

Meeting point: Garonne Beach.

Route: From Garonne Beach to the Port des Oursinières, via the coastal trail.

Duration: About 2 hours.

What to bring: Closed-toe shoes suitable for walking, water, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

The route may be adjusted depending on weather conditions or any restrictions in effect.

This free event is offered by reservation as part of the “Our Living Beaches – Understanding Nature to Better Preserve It” program, led by the Port-Cros National Park as part of the European AMMIRARE project. Coordinated locally by the CIETM, this program offers free activities throughout the summer to help participants better understand the natural processes of Mediterranean beaches and the challenges of preserving them.
