Route 14: Golden Fruits Walk (pp. 62–65)
Starting and ending point: the port of Porquerolles
1) From the port, head right toward the village. Walk past Place de l’Église Sainte-Anne, a square lined with eucalyptus trees, and at the village exit, turn right, heading south toward the National Park hamlet. Visit the National Park Visitor Center in Porquerolles and the Emmanuel Lopez Garden year-round.
2) Continue to the Carrefour des Oliviers, where you’ll see different varieties of olive trees. Then head toward the Porquerolles plain, which is home to fig, almond, orange,
and lemon trees. Stop at the famous vineyards and sample their wines. Renowned in the wine world, you can also enjoy their flavors at one of the village’s restaurants.
3) Follow this same trail to reach the lighthouse, which is not open to visitors but offers a remarkable view of the coast. You’ll cross the island from north to south.
4) You’ll head back via Cap d’Arme and the Gorges du Loup, where the trail is lined with holm oaks and fresh, fragrant rockroses. You’ll reach the farming hamlet by passing through the Porquerolles National Botanical Conservatory, where you can explore its plant collections.
5) You then have two options:
a) From the National Park hamlet, take the Bois du Rossignol trail, which will lead you to Argent Beach with its quartz sand, where you can swap your sneakers for flippers and take a dip in the beautiful blue water. No need to hop on a plane to admire turquoise waters! You’ll then head back toward the port via the Pointe Prime trail, then south toward the hamlet of Les Pamplemousses and the pier.
b) Or you can return to the Carrefour des Oliviers, head toward Les Quatre Chemins to climb up to Fort Sainte-Agathe, and then descend back to the harbor (self-guided or guided tour during the season).
